Cannot open ODM files in Overdrive Media Console

I am using Windows 7.  thom aqua's instructions worked for me after I managed to change the permissions to the folders in question so I could see the files to delete.

Try to undo the permission changes below after your windows media security update succeeds.

To see hidden files on Windows 7, you need to go to

Control Panel

  Appearance and Personalization

    Folder Options

      Show hidden files and folders.

Select the View tab and under Hidden files and folders select

"Show hidden files, folders, and drives". Select Apply.

Right click On the Start Menu and select Open Windows Explorer.

Navigate to C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM.

If you have trouble opening any of the above directories then right click on it and select properties.

In the General tab, you can remove the Read-only attribute.

In the Security tab, click Advanced to modify the special permissions.

From the displayed table, select the row with the name "Everyone" and the Apply To column

that says "Subfolders and files only". Now, press the Change Permissions button.

Again, select the same row as above and press the Edit button.

In the "Full control" row, select the Allow checkbox.

Press OK or Apply to close all the popups.

You may have to close the Windows Exporer and re-open it to see the changes.

Now, you should be able to see the files under DRM and follow the instructions given in a previous post with regards to deleting the files in the DRM directory.

thank you for that. I found that solution in a few places too but it doesnt work on my machine. I am running windows 7 & when i get to the DRM folder it is  completely empty.  I am unable to perform the security update and I have already deleted and reinstaled Overdrive several times. Any suggestions?

After searching for 2 weeks for a solution I finally solved my problem abd wanted to share the answer incase anyone else was having the same problem with vista

We apologize for the problems that you have encountered. Usually,

resetting the DRM will solve this problem. Please try following these

steps to accomplish that.

** Please note: We apologize, but this is a very involved process.

Please make sure you take the time to follow each step carefully. **

1. Open “Control Panel”.
2. Open “Folder Options” and select the “View” tab.
3. Select “Show hidden files and folders”.
4. UNCHECK “Hide protected operating system files”.
5. In the warning message you receive, click “Yes”.
6. Click “OK”.
7. Close the Control Panel
8. Click the Start button. In the “Start Search” box, paste the following:

C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

9. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

blackbox.bin

drmstore.hds

v3ks.bla

v3ks.sec

10. Close this window and open OverDrive Media Console.
11. Go to “Tools > Windows Media Player Security Upgrade”.
12. Once the upgrade is complete, try downloading a book.

I am paranoid about deleting system files, so I backed them up first, then deleted them.

After deleting them I was able to go to the http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp

and click the upgrade button.  It took my system a minute or two to do something after it said connecting to the server, but eventually it did continue and I was able to successfully download WMA content to the Overdrive player.

I get an error message

The parameter is incorrect.

When I go to the drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivisite/en/indivit.asp page the upgrade button is disabled.  If I run IE as admin, I get the same results.
