Windows 7 moves/resizes windows on monitor power cycle

I have a new W7 ultimate install on a new PC (AOpen DEX4501 w intel GM45 graphics). I have installed the latest Intel graphics drivers 8.15.10.2202, and all relevant windows updates.

It is connected via HDMI to a Grundig Misuro HD TV. My resolution is set to 1600x900, windows recommended resolution is 1920x1080 but this displays badly so I don't use it.

When Windows sleeps, or I turn off (then later on) the monitor, most windows are moved/resized to the upper left with the lower right at 1024x768.

Firefox, Excel(2003),Explorer windows resize/move, Outlook(2003) did not move/resize.

I have a Samurize (Gadget like) display on the right which someimes get relocated to the top left, but not this morning. The windows resize/move also happens when Samurize is not running.

I have found three other entries related to this;

They don't seem to have been resolved for a long time.

This is a Windows monitor power managment issue, can it be fixed please it is very annoying.

I won't be recommending W7 to others with such issues outstanding.

I have found a work-around.

Using Sysinternals ProcessMonitor I found that Windows was accessing the following Registry path;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\Configuration

My system had three entries;

DELF003YY7707BR0MUL_30_07D7_6A^9A3774EB79DEE3E3E38496CC7DF4D936

QHD32000001_31_07D6_D5^63E1ABDD175E7871DCAEB710418A0F75

SIMULATED_8086_2A42_00000000_00020000_1010100^CDE365D1B3F0942F0CF38BFB8E127AB4

Under each is a tree called "00" two of the keys are

PrimSurfSize.cx

PrimSurfSize.cy

Under "00" was another branch also called "00" two of the keys are;

ActiveSize.cx

ActiveSize.cy

The first two of the configs (ie DELF00... & QHD3...) the above keys were 1440x900,

so they were not involved.

The third (SIMULATED...) were set to 1024x768.

I changed these to 1600x900 and the problem was solved.

Further I changed resolution (via control panel) to 1920x1080, the moving/resize issue returned,

but the lower right corner was set to 1600x900, ie the SIMULATED... settings.

So for some reason one of the configs does not get set correctly.

I don't know why there are three configs, I have only ever used one monitor.

Hope this helps someone out there...

    All I did was remove all entries from the configuration of graphic drivers in the registry directory mentioned by most posts here.  That worked very nicely, I guess after having this computer through 3 monitors it starts making too many entries and Windows gets confused.

    AT LAST A SOLUTION !!! This worked for me - my PC had been used as a demo machine by the retailer and had, I guess, been connected to a variety of different screens.

    Come on Microsoft - get your act together !!!

    I had so many issues with sleep, window resize. Complete debacle on my Alienware Aurora R4. 

    The he fix for me was disable sleep, disable hibernate, disable monitor energy saver power down. I only use screen dimming and let my system run full tilt all day.  Now it's fine and it cost me another 50 bucks a year in electricity. Well worth it

    My issues have been similar, I have Windows 10 64 at Version 1511 (10585.104).  My system is a new ASUS x99-A with a ASUS Radeon STRIX 390x GPU.

    When I encountered the issue there were many layers.  I have been trying to connect several monitors, and Windows 10 has numerous sleeping disorders.  (My Surface Pro 4 has a big problem sleeping.)

    To make a long story short, my system can't sleep at all, I just let the screen saver kick in.  I can allow sleep, with the resizing issue of all my windows being moved around, but more seriously, sometimes Window decides one of my displays is not connected or is at a low resolution.  The only fix is to follow the process of deleting the registry entries.

    During this process, I opened 6 tickets with ASUS until they provided a solution at least in part.

    For more details on my setup, I have:

    ASUS MG279 1440p Display that can run at 144 Hz.

    LG 34UM95 3440x1440 at 60 Hz

    LG 34UC97-S 3440x1440 at 60 Hz

    So issue #1, even though my GPU has 3 x DP 1.2 ports, you can't use all these displays at the same time.  The Radeon GPU shares the total bandwidth among the ports, so the limit is just over 17 Gbps (according to wikipedia and ASUS).  So in order to run this kind of resolution, I'd need more GPUs to provide more bandwidth.  After using a second GPU with the MG279 and the 34UM95 on one and the 34UC97 on the other, I could consistently display at 60 Hz or higher on all screens.

    But there was issue #2, which meant that there was a good likelihood that after sleep, one or more of the displays would be jacked up.  Once horked, the displays would be at the wrong resolution, or rearranged with all the windows moved around, or in some cases one of the displays would be deactivated.  I can fix all these issues by deleting the registry entries.  (Thx to this thread).

    But even then, I am not letting my PC sleep now, just waiting for the screensaver and that's it.

    I am looking forward to a solution, and one thing I've learned is that DP bandwidth is a real limitation, so if you're running 1440p or 4K with high refresh, you may exceed the total available bandwidth and may need more GPUs.

    Doing the dual HDMI / DP thing is intriguing but you're going to add to the total GPU bandwidth issue so in my case that's not a real solution, since my GPU gets pushed to the limit already.
