Windows Media Player shows the incorrect album information.

Old title: Windows Media Player giving wrong info....

I try to rip my music CDs to Windows Media Player but my recent new albums it gives me the wrong album info why is this? any clues.

It's possible that WMP incorrectly identifies a CD as another album. To fix this, look up the album info manually: right-click one of the tracks, select Find album info , search for the correct album, and follow the remaining steps of the wizard.

If you go to the All Music Guide database (which is used by WMP), and the information there is incorrect as well, you should be able to correct it there.

Also, if you make corrections through Find Album Info, that information might be used to correct the database in the future.

    Are you sure that the All Music Guide is used by WMP? Today, for instance I bought the new CD by Seasick Steve (You can't teach an old dog new tricks) and WMP sees it as a previous release. 

    When I check All music guide, it correctly lists the new album, with artwork and track listings.

    But when I do a search in WMP it doesn't list "Your Can't Teach......" even under the artist listing.  If I click on buy WMP takes me to MSN music, which interestingly doesn't list "You Can't Teach..." making me think that my WMP is using MSN music catalogue not the All Music Guide.

    Its the 2nd CD in the last month that this has happened to, both new releases.

    Using WMP 12 on Win7 BTW.

    WMP definitely used All Music Guide in the past, but I'm not sure if it still does. New releases are always tricky, as it may take some time before the info is added to whatever database WMP uses. You could try submitting the correct info yourself, through Find album info.

    Hi there,

    It seems there are two main causes to this problem.

    1. Either you are dragging the wrong information down from the internet, or/and
    2. You now have the wrong data in your Windows Media database.

    You need to check both.

    Solutions for the first one abound, and are about turning off the privacy setting so you stop getting incorrect information from the internet.

    An excellent solution for the second one is provided by Shekhar.

    I would add to it  though. In Windows 7 I was not able to delete all the files in the directory in question. One of them needed me to stop the Windows Media Player Network Sharing service. So, by starting Task Manager, viewing Services, and then clicking the 'Services' button at the bottom, I got the dialog where I could stop the service. Then I could delete the final file in the directory. Then the problem was fixed.
