It's possible that WMP incorrectly identifies a CD as another album. To fix this, look up the album info manually: right-click one of the tracks, select Find album info , search for the correct album, and follow the remaining steps of the wizard.

If you go to the All Music Guide database (which is used by WMP), and the information there is incorrect as well, you should be able to correct it there.

Also, if you make corrections through Find Album Info, that information might be used to correct the database in the future.

The key here:  any disk manipulation of files/names done outside of windows media will result in windows media "correcting your changes".  It will overwrite and place files where it thinks they should be and occaisionaly will put some in the recycle bin.

If you want to change file locations/some file attributes directly on disk, you need to turn off the windows media service,  delete it's database, then do your direct disk changes.    THEN turn the media player service back on, start media player and let it rebuild the database.

This is information previously given on the user help community with a few comments

    1.Shutdown windows media player

2.Stop the media sharing service.  Go to Start->Control Panel->All Control Panel Items->Administrative Tools->Services Right-click on the “Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service” and select Stop.  (change view to small icons to see admin tools)

3.Navigate to “c:\Users\”your username”\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player.  Now delete the files named CurrentDatabase_***.wmdb and LocalMLS_*.wmdb. (deleting the .wmdb will usually do the trick, hidden directory so usually have to type the path)

    4)  Do your changes on disk

5.Start the media sharing service in the control panel

6).Now start Windows Media Player and watch it build up your library again.

(might need to do this: Hit "F3" and enter the location where you have moved your music to. If it is on muliple drives, check "All Drives". Let it finish)

Disclaimer: Rebuilding the library will NOT delete the actual music or video files, but it WILL remove extra information like ratings, playcount and Last Played Date. These steps below will include making a backup of the library so you can always put it back in case you wish to revert to the old situation.

I usually run with "update music files on internet" off (some trade-offs with this)

Are you sure that the All Music Guide is used by WMP? Today, for instance I bought the new CD by Seasick Steve (You can't teach an old dog new tricks) and WMP sees it as a previous release.

When I check All music guide, it correctly lists the new album, with artwork and track listings.

But when I do a search in WMP it doesn't list "Your Can't Teach......" even under the artist listing.  If I click on buy WMP takes me to MSN music, which interestingly doesn't list "You Can't Teach..." making me think that my WMP is using MSN music catalogue not the All Music Guide.

Its the 2nd CD in the last month that this has happened to, both new releases.

Using WMP 12 on Win7 BTW.

Correct in All Music Guide, but Media  Player trashes it, including no sequential track numbers.
