Old title: Windows Media Player giving wrong info....
I try to rip my music CDs to Windows Media Player but my recent new albums it gives me the wrong album info why is this? any clues.

It's possible that WMP incorrectly identifies a CD as another album. To fix this, look up the album info manually: right-click one of the tracks, select Find album info , search for the correct album, and follow the remaining steps of the wizard.

If you go to the All Music Guide database (which is used by WMP), and the information there is incorrect as well, you should be able to correct it there.
Also, if you make corrections through Find Album Info, that information might be used to correct the database in the future.

You are right about the confused info - classical music is probably the worst but on the whole iTunes gets closer more often than the MS database. I just keep a preferred version - as per your example I would use 'Diana Ross' or 'The Supremes' whichever was most appropriate - rather than have three (or more) options. I edit such info myself before ripping a disc and make sure I never click 'Update album info' in WMP! I have WMP internet settings kept to the bare minimum for good measure. Once you have set the info you want it should not really be a 'full time job' correcting it. Let me know if you want to check through settings. - Cheers, Ric.
in fact I think this a bigger problem that we realize. try this. put a cd into windows media player look at the results, then do the same with iTunes you will find that the information is different, because most of these databases are using information given by users i.e us. you will find the Diana ross & the supremes can be id as Diana ross, supremes or maybe Diana ross and the supremes/the supremes. the problems to be that there is no accepted format for any artist, or album.
I have amotown library of over 45,00 tracks. and its a full time job to keep correcting the metadata because its never the same from diffent players or databases. for instance the all media database that wmp uses contains many thousands of errors, albums that don't exist etc.
Did you try deleting the album and re-ripping it? (You can search for the closest match before starting the rip...) Album art can easily be found online and pasted to WMP after it has been ripped. I would agree that the fai music database used by MS is not that great, but that's not really a WMP problem. Cheers, Ric.
