Windows Vista- Can't turn on Windows Defender

I TRIED TO TURN ON WINDOW DEFENDER. IT GAVE AN ERROR 0X800705B4.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Hi tropicalvic,

Let’s follow these steps which should fix the issue.

Step 1

If you have any third party antivirus software and firewall disable them temporarily and make sure that the Windows Firewall is turned on. Then check if the issue reappears.

Step 2

  1. Open Run, and  type in services.msc then press Enter.
  2. In services window, locate Windows Defender service in the services list.
  3. Verify that the Status is Started. If the Status column is blank,

right click on the service and select Start.

4 If you get error trying to force start the Windows Defender service, try to change the Startup Type to Automatic, and then restart the computer.

    The services log i was sent to says that windows defendor is turned on automatic, yet i can"t turn on the Defendor itself. I would be very grateful for any help as before it closed it was trying to clean my system of a serioud Trojan problem. As of now i dont know whether it succedded or not. Thank you.

    My Defender shows as running and Automatic is in the box, but all the boxes are greyed out and nothing can be changed.

    I got the same error. I was able to fix it.  I was instructed that dnsapi.dll was missing and added to

    my system.  Only after dnsapi.dll was applied did I begin having problems.   I found a program

    online to search and remove that dll from my system.  Once it was removed the error went away.
