Windows Vista- Can't turn on Windows Defender

I TRIED TO TURN ON WINDOW DEFENDER. IT GAVE AN ERROR 0X800705B4.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Hi tropicalvic,

Let’s follow these steps which should fix the issue.

Step 1

If you have any third party antivirus software and firewall disable them temporarily and make sure that the Windows Firewall is turned on. Then check if the issue reappears.

Step 2

  1. Open Run, and  type in services.msc then press Enter.
  2. In services window, locate Windows Defender service in the services list.
  3. Verify that the Status is Started. If the Status column is blank,

right click on the service and select Start.

4 If you get error trying to force start the Windows Defender service, try to change the Startup Type to Automatic, and then restart the computer.

    I just installed HotSpotShield before this happened and uninstalling it solved the issue for me.

    Maybe some software really affects this firewall such as IP blocking software.

    This did not work but threw up the following message;

    "Windows could not start Windows Defender Service service on Local Computer.

    Error 577: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.  A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source."

    I have check Windows defenders is running at automatic type but I still meet this error. How can I solve it?Please advise

    I got the same error. I was able to fix it.  I was instructed that dnsapi.dll was missing and added to

    my system.  Only after dnsapi.dll was applied did I begin having problems.   I found a program

    online to search and remove that dll from my system.  Once it was removed the error went away.
