Windows Vista- Can't turn on Windows Defender

I TRIED TO TURN ON WINDOW DEFENDER. IT GAVE AN ERROR 0X800705B4.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Hi tropicalvic,

Let’s follow these steps which should fix the issue.

Step 1

If you have any third party antivirus software and firewall disable them temporarily and make sure that the Windows Firewall is turned on. Then check if the issue reappears.

Step 2

  1. Open Run, and  type in services.msc then press Enter.
  2. In services window, locate Windows Defender service in the services list.
  3. Verify that the Status is Started. If the Status column is blank,

right click on the service and select Start.

4 If you get error trying to force start the Windows Defender service, try to change the Startup Type to Automatic, and then restart the computer.

    I toggled the checkbox in "Allow remote assistance" and (Advanced)"Allow this Computer to be controlled" and after a reboot it's all working.

    So you and Dustym07 nailed it. Thanks again.

    What if you don't have Win 8 PRO? - i.e. Enable Remote Desktop is not an option

    I was only quoting DUSTYM07 from page 4. I didn't realise it was for pro version only. It does seem very difficult to find a simple reason for why this is occurring.
