why is there no multi band equalizer for windows 7?
Yes I understand that you can change the settings in media player to change the equalizer, but this is useless for example when listening to online material, this is a step backwards !. I cannot find any compatible programmes that can allow me this, which has always been available on previous windows.

What kind of audio chip do you have?
The AC97 (most common) comes with a nice utility to do all this. It's only 10-band but hey ...
The utility (called Sound Effect Manager) is installed into the control panel by default.
Failing that, try Control Panel>Sound then select your speakers and click Properties>EnhancementsOne of those options is an EQ of sorts with some presets down below.

So? That means nothing. All other versions prior to now had to deal with less diversity, less advanced features and less bundled drivers to start working just after installation. How many cd's of drivers did you had to install in XP for everything just working? One for the sound card, another for the graphic card, another for the motherboard, for the bluetooth dongle, for the printer... and so on, and of course, a lot of restarting after each hw install. In W7 you just had to install the OS and everything was already working, but sure, if you're looking for some fancy stuff you should then install the drivers from the hw manufacturer, and if they don't have then complain to them, who are the responsible for that, not MS.
And btw, I'm not related to MS in any way, just in case, I just wanted to point out that you're complaining to the wrong guys.
Ok. All my laptop says is " high definition audio device" for the audio devices as well. I accidentally found the equalizer for it when unplugging and plugging in my speakers... :D Yay for happy accidents! Ok. The program is called IDT Audio Control Panel . Just type that into your search bar on the start menu and you should find it. This is of course, if you have the same device as me. Try unplugging and plugging your speakers and hopefully the program you need pops up. Good luck!
SIW is extremely solid and reliable, so if you can't even run it (standalone) you have other more serious system issues going on. But you will have to work that out, I guess.
The app you use to access this online media is the next thing to look at.
I am absolutely hooked on AIMP2, it plays everything including shoutcast and other streaming music sites.
I have found dozens of channels of STUFF I LIKE easily and rarely listen to "regular" radio anymore.
It also has a very nice tag editor utility that I use a good bit.
18-band EQ makes it all sound great on my home system (8 speakers) or my notebook (4).

Hi,
I happened on this thread Googling for "equalizer for streaming audio for Windows 7." I have the same problem as Andy. I downloaded and ran SIW and can't find any reference to a specific audio chipset. Mobo is a Dell branded one with built-in audio.
I have found the equalizer in WMP 12, but for STREAMING audio this (obviously) has no effect. AIMP2 sounds like an interesting program and I might try it, but really, shouldn't there be some equalizer that works in Windows for streaming audio?
