No Stereo Mix in Windows 7 Please Help!

I've read all over on the internet but none of the solutions help me. I use Stereo Mix to send sounds over MSN using the record button as well as using the mic. The mic works fine in 7 and stereo mix used to work in windowsxp and vista but now in windows 7 on the same machine (Acer 4420 notebook) there is no stereo mix. I go into the sound control panel then right click and say

Show disabled devices

Show disconnected devices

and all that shows up is the monitor microphone, the microphone sound card jack and line-in. I need Stereo Mix to work in Windows 7.

I've written for help on the microsoft answers board twice now and they ignored me, I've asked on yahoo answers, they ignored me. I even wrote to realtek and they have ignored me as well twice now, I will be contacting the better business bureau to complain about customer service if I cannot reach a solution. I have been trying to find a solution for a month now!

I have fixed the stereo problem.I went back to H/P and asked them to fix it. and they updated the bios and updated the audio driver.Lokks like it's an older driver but it works fine and I have my stero back.The update for the bios is the fix,along with update driver.

    Dear All,

    Microsoft possibly discontinued the stereo mixer on demand from

    their software allies.

    The only solution is add in a "Stereo Mix Plus or Virtual audio cable" is a software tool to fix & enhance the stereo mix feature of your sound card.

    Please Google for this and add it on your laptops.

    I found this solution a long time back, after a lot of R&D on this subject.

    Here is what I discovered. Windows was using a default driver when I installed the OS. It worked fine, but lacked the advanced properties. So I found out even though the audio showed up as Microsoft, it was a Realtek device. I downloaded the correct driver from them and Viola! I now have Stereo Mix. 

      I hope this helps someone. I struggled with this for a while.

    I have posted this answer before, but I think a variation on it will help you, so here it is again.

    No Stereo Mix in Windows 7 had been bugged me, off and on, for over a year.

    As I have a couple of Dell Inspiron 6400 laptops and a Windows XP partition on both, I could use stereo mix there, and I just left the problem about Windows 7 on the back burner.

    Now two things in this forum, put together, have solved the problem for me.

    1. I FORCED a Dell 6400 XP Sigma Tel driver to install in Windows 7, and I do mean forced.
    2. Re-booted, then followed the instructions below : thanks Dominic

     (Click on speaker icon on the start bar-in task bar notifications or whatever, click on recording devices-right click in box, and tick 'show disabled devices', then stereo mix appears-then enable the device)

    Suddenly Stereo Mix can be used in all my favourite software.

    You should still have access to an Asus Windows XP audio driver, either on a driver disc or from Asus's website.

    When you have found it, go to Device Manager and force it to install the XP driver as the audio driver, then follow the rest of the instructions.
