Moving picture files around within a folder

When I try to drag and drop picture files within a folder to improve the order as I did with XP, the files return to their original location within the folder. How can I move pictures around within a folder?

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

You cannot manually rearrange the files/pictures by dragging within the folder in Windows 7. This change is by design in Windows 7. You can only uncheck the option to auto arrange icons on the desktop and can use it only on the desktop.

If you are referring to the Arrange by date, size, etc then you can still do that by simply Right clicking and selecting Sort by option in the drop down menu when inside the picture or file folder.

    Delete all pictures?  Are you positive you want to do this?

    OK...do a search for:

    .jpg, .gif, .png, .tif, .bmp

    When the search is complete...

    Go to...Edit / Select All...Edit / Delete.

    Nadeem I don't buy in to MS is bettering the system, How can something that isn't as good as the prior version be better,Sorry I find windows picture program to be crude and a pain to use. It is so bad I am tempted to quit pictures and who knows maybe I will just get rid of our three computers and go without.I am afraid to be around yet another revision. I am so sorry I traded xp for this.I get it now we get Windows 8. Nope I am about to go Mac. I hope there is a fix for the picture program. Thanks Ernie
