Moving picture files around within a folder

When I try to drag and drop picture files within a folder to improve the order as I did with XP, the files return to their original location within the folder. How can I move pictures around within a folder?

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

You cannot manually rearrange the files/pictures by dragging within the folder in Windows 7. This change is by design in Windows 7. You can only uncheck the option to auto arrange icons on the desktop and can use it only on the desktop.

If you are referring to the Arrange by date, size, etc then you can still do that by simply Right clicking and selecting Sort by option in the drop down menu when inside the picture or file folder.

    I am sooopissed off - I will never use Windows again. Welcome Mac.

    I collect data from different people - such as photos and try to rearrange it in a single folder and no longer can do this with Windows 7.

    Who gave the idiot employee in Windows the authority to disable this function. They should be fired.

    Has this issue been resolved? I'm very frustrated at not being able to drag my pictures in order to organize them as I want!  This is very important to me so that I can have my pictures put on a CD in my organized fashion and to also put them on a memory stick the way I want them organized.
