Moving picture files around within a folder

When I try to drag and drop picture files within a folder to improve the order as I did with XP, the files return to their original location within the folder. How can I move pictures around within a folder?

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

You cannot manually rearrange the files/pictures by dragging within the folder in Windows 7. This change is by design in Windows 7. You can only uncheck the option to auto arrange icons on the desktop and can use it only on the desktop.

If you are referring to the Arrange by date, size, etc then you can still do that by simply Right clicking and selecting Sort by option in the drop down menu when inside the picture or file folder.

    I am checking the net for days in the hope to find a solution for this problem to move pictures files around within a folder. I hope Microsoft realizes that A LOT OF PEOPLE have the same problem, not only those which work professionally, but also people which just want to reposition their pictures in the folder and then rename them in that new position... as it used to happen with XP.

    PLEASE, PLEASE fix this problem (which for me is a real BIG problem) and send us an updater, better yesterday than tomorrow!!

    I agree make this change and send it out to the public as an updater this needs to be fixed there are a great many of us who use the drag and drop to arrange pictures even to copy past them to a new folder in clumps or whatever.

    This sucks. Is this the future, where we can't choose our own folder opitions? It now has to be done by some corporate stranger. I'll bet your sales are going to go down. I won't buy another windows 7. I will go back to vista Or even Mac. Also I don't want my taskbar cluttered with icons that I can't hide. I willl also complain to anyone who will listen.  nuff said

    This is going back to the dark ages.  Windows had this problems years ago and here they go again.  This is stupid.
