Moving picture files around within a folder

When I try to drag and drop picture files within a folder to improve the order as I did with XP, the files return to their original location within the folder. How can I move pictures around within a folder?

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows forum.

You cannot manually rearrange the files/pictures by dragging within the folder in Windows 7. This change is by design in Windows 7. You can only uncheck the option to auto arrange icons on the desktop and can use it only on the desktop.

If you are referring to the Arrange by date, size, etc then you can still do that by simply Right clicking and selecting Sort by option in the drop down menu when inside the picture or file folder.

    I am also voting for this problem to be fixed, this was one of the most retarded decissions microsoft has ever made, do you guys realise how important that feature was for arranging photo collections?

    This may come across as a suprise to you Microsoft but .jpg  (pictures) are a pretty popular format nowday that people use, you may have heard of cameras which are used to take photos, well some of us need to arrange all the byproduct of cameras into sets and categorize them, it would help if you maybe kept with the times and made a an operating system that was able to function with photographs and images.

    THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM.  IF THERE IS ANYONE THERE WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS, PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM.  I AGREE THAT THIS WAS A STEP BACK, NOT FORWARD.

    Pictures usually only have a generic numbering system, so how is this different than renaming them and changing the numbers to fit your needs, you have this option when you import.

    Whether you keep using win-7 or not, they already got your money, net gain (zero) renaming is more productive.

    So, Azeez N... does this mean that microsoft thinks that users shouldn't have control over there own computers.  That we should be fixed in categories that microsoft picks out for us... placed into boxes not of our own choosing?

    It's a very small option, but small removal of options... power over our own computer that can led to even more reduction of power of our own desires.

    The powers that be should create a update to rectify this removal of options for their users asap.

    (And yes, I am sending a feedback message... I just think that it's better to write more than less.)
