Why is my windows media player not burning any of my blank Cds

for the past 3 hours i have been working on tryiong to burn cds off of windows media player. i have CD-R discs which is music discs which i never had any problems with until now. then after a while i tried using a DVD+R CD to record it as a sata CD but that did not seem to work either. it read the CD but it did not let me burn. it said how many mins it had remained but when i added music to the burn list it never moved or the burn now button ever came up for me to click it. it was gray. PLEASE HELP ME

Hi RevDraiford,

A.      Are you able to burn CD’s using other programs?

B.      Are you getting any error while you try to burn CD?

C.      From when are you facing this issue?

If you bring up windows media player, then make a burn list, then insert disk to burn the music it will gray out the burn button. But if you insert the disk then bring up media player it will not be grayed out.

To burn an audio CD do the following:

1.     Click the Burn tab, click the arrow below the Burn tab, and then click Audio CD (this is the default choice).

2.     Insert a blank CD-R disc into your CD burner.

3.     If necessary, click the Clear List pane button to remove all items from the previous burn list.

4.     Find the items in your library that you want to copy to the audio CD.

5.     To create a burn list, drag items from the Details pane (the pane in the middle of the library) to the List pane (the pane on the right side of the library).

    I'm having a very similar issue but slightly different.  I put in the blank CD-R, have my burn list in place, click "Start Burn", everything goes normally. Looks like it's writing all the music data to the blank disc, no error messages pop up, everything looks completely normal.  But when it's all done and the disc is ejected (per my settings), I put the disc back in the drive and it's still completely blank.  

    I am able to play music discs perfectly well, but it's just not burning new ones.

    iTunes does give me a message when it's through burning that I have inserted a blank disc, and tries to start the process all over again, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with either iTunes or WMP specifically.  There's something else going on here.

    This issue just started today, and it is the same whether I use iTunes or Windows Media Player.  Extremely frustrating, especially since this is for a client of mine and I was on a deadline!

    BTW . . . my OS is Vista.

     Did  all as directed. Still won't burn . Rejects CD Disc which is a CD-R.

    I use iTunes. Works perfectly, every time.

    "Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or not recognized by Windows or other programs, so you cannot play or access a CD or DVD. This issue might have occurred after you installed, uninstalled, or updated a program or Windows Vista.

    This issue may also occur if one of the following conditions is true: you upgrade to Windows Vista, Windows 7 or install a service pack." 

    I dont know  about u all, but I had no problem until I installed Win 7 service pack 1.  It doesnt matter if I use iTunes, Winamp or WMP,  my CD/DVD+- cant read any dvd or cd, being music or game or movies, and I cant burn any cd or data CD.  It just wont read any info and as many of u have tried and wasted a lot blank CD, in order to burn something, I have done it also.  I have a gaming laptop, and for first 9-10 mos everything was fine, and now I am angry since it is unbelievable that no one in this big corporation has been able to help, and it is clearly a problem of ur Win 7 service pack update, and not my software or drive.

    I have tried all ur suggested solution, run fixit, and did what the following link suggested: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116

    NOTHING HAS HELPED, SO WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? MAYBE MR. GATES CAN GIVE ME SOME HELP, SINCE NONE OF SUPPORT ENGINEERS OR ANY OTHER STAFF WERE HELPFUL.

    I have an Asus Altec and Win 7 Ultimate, please someone dig deeper in order to help me, I thought with this recent update few days ago, they will fix this error, but nothing has changed. I dont get any error, but in my system information both my CDFS and UDFS are disabled, and dont know how to able them.
