Windows Media Player encountered a problem while creating or saving the playlist.

Since last week I cannot create a playlist in WMP 12 on windows 7.  Also cannot rip cd's. MS has no information regarding this problem. Worked o.k. before last week when updates were installed.  Has there been a way found to remove WMP 12 and revert to WMP 11?  Or should I abandon Windows 7 and return to VISTA?  I have done what I know to do so far, including restoring computer to an earlier date.  Still does not work right.

Microsoft... Please fix WMP 12.

Hi Trakai,

I would recommend you to run the Windows Media Player settings troubleshooter and check.

If the issue exists uninstall and re-install the Windows Media Player. Here is how.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

Step 1.

Uninstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the computer

Step 2.

Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the Computer.

    Kenneth: in WMP, please go to Tools

    • Options - Rip Music (press Ctrl+M if you don't see the Tools menu). Is there a rip music location set? Can you change it by clicking the Change... button?

    What If you can't ?

    Because I tried all the solutions, and I cant change the folder...

    I had no folder set for the Music library, so I made a new one, and assigned that to the Music library.. but still no change for WMP

    EDIT:

    I just tried changing some other settings, and I get this message:

    De instellingen voor het rippen van muziek kunnen niet worden toegepast.

    which translates to:

    The settings for ripping music can not be applied.

    Weird...

    Note: I've had issues with ownership before on this laptop, so I set myself as the owner of all folders on my main windows disk [C:]

    I believe this also messed up my Network Center and Maintainance Center [which can't be started]

    Kasper88: in WMP's library, please click Organize, and select Manage libraries - Music . What locations are listed there? If there are any unavailable locations, remove them, and also make sure that a Default save location is set. Do the same for the other libraries (Videos, Pictures, Recorded TV).

    If that doesn't help, close WMP, open Windows Explorer, right-click the Music library, select Properties, and click Restore Defaults. After that, make sure that a save location is set (as indicated by a checkmark).

    Thanks for the quick reply!

    Well, I tried changing the folder in WMP, but nothing happens when I click the change location button... [I don't get a popup window to set the folder]

    Also, no folder is set, as you can see here:

    I also added a folder to the music library, but it says its Not Responding... What does that mean?

    The folder does exist and does have files in it...

    I also rightclicked on the libraries in explorer, and clicked: Restore Default Libraries, but nothing changes... [except one folder was added to the Music library, but that folder is empty...]

    The Not Responding (or more correctly, Unresponsive) label is probably the problem here. This seems to indicate that the folder is not indexed by Windows Search. See the following thread for more info and a fix:
