Windows Media Player encountered a problem while creating or saving the playlist.

Since last week I cannot create a playlist in WMP 12 on windows 7.  Also cannot rip cd's. MS has no information regarding this problem. Worked o.k. before last week when updates were installed.  Has there been a way found to remove WMP 12 and revert to WMP 11?  Or should I abandon Windows 7 and return to VISTA?  I have done what I know to do so far, including restoring computer to an earlier date.  Still does not work right.

Microsoft... Please fix WMP 12.

Hi Trakai,

I would recommend you to run the Windows Media Player settings troubleshooter and check.

If the issue exists uninstall and re-install the Windows Media Player. Here is how.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

Step 1.

Uninstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the computer

Step 2.

Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the Computer.

    Make sure libraries feature is not disabled. Worked after I re-enabled them.

    Ok, the solution is as simple as this:

    Close WMP. Go to your current Library folder. Select Music, Right click > Properties. Select Music, then press Set Save Location. Now it should have a green tick. Close. Open WMP. Create playlist. Done.

    Hope this helps instead of the lame Microsoft replies. They seem to have only one solution: Uninstall, Reinstall. Complete waste of time, instead of giving us a solution to the root.

    If you already have a folder listed, right-click it and assign the folder as Deaful Save Location :)
