Windows Media Player encountered a problem while creating or saving the playlist.

Since last week I cannot create a playlist in WMP 12 on windows 7.  Also cannot rip cd's. MS has no information regarding this problem. Worked o.k. before last week when updates were installed.  Has there been a way found to remove WMP 12 and revert to WMP 11?  Or should I abandon Windows 7 and return to VISTA?  I have done what I know to do so far, including restoring computer to an earlier date.  Still does not work right.

Microsoft... Please fix WMP 12.

Hi Trakai,

I would recommend you to run the Windows Media Player settings troubleshooter and check.

If the issue exists uninstall and re-install the Windows Media Player. Here is how.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

Step 1.

Uninstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and uncheck the mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the computer

Step 2.

Reinstalling the Windows Media Player:

  1. Go to Start and in the search type "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  2. Click on "Turn Windows features On or Off".
  3. Browse to the Media Features and place a check mark in front of Windows Media Player.
  4. Restart the Computer.

    I have tried the "resolutions" presented here with no success.  I have a Dell Corei7 64-bit system with Windows 7 and WMP 12 which I bought to be my media center and, unfortunately, this media center will not save playlists.  I can bring photos, music, and video into the WMP playlist, listen or view them, and I can name the list, but as soon as I hit ENTER, I get the message "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while creating..................   Nearly two days have been spent trying to resolve this issue and my regard for Windows7 has plummeted even further.  Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

    Hi,

    I had the exact same problem earlier.

    The reason (for me) that this problem occured, is that I did not have a default folder assigned as 'Default save location' in the libraries.

    When I click Organize, and then Manage libraries, and then Music. There was no folder listed.

    Once I assigned a folder the creating of a playlist worked as it should.

    Hope I contribute with this little piece of information.

    I made a similar but altered change. Under managing the Music library, I removed two locations where I do not save music. They seemed to be default folders related to the user profile and shared music folder. Since I have a custom music folder location, I only left it present. I then closed MP and re-opened it. I was immediately able to save a new playlist.

    As AIRWATER suggests we too had the same issue and it appears others do to and the standard troubleshooting does not apply.  I couldnt do this on a brand new machine.  In our case we have a locked down environment and since Media Player couldnt write to the C:\users\Public\Music folder, it threw an error.  Once this folder was opened up, no problem and the playlist was redirected properly to the users homedrive directory where it should be.  Thanks for the crapware Microsoft.
