Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

lol think this look how long it took xbox to play blu rays until the xbox one came out. The ps3 (sony) had it and the Xbox 360 (Microsoft) had the hd player which you had to buy so don't expect toooooo much from Microsoft as they don't have the resources (brains) to update the programme. had to make my own codec. really don't recommend downloading another programme but that's the thing you don't have no other option.

The best and cheapest solution is to go buy a stand alone Blu-Ray player and forget running that format on your Windows OS PC. The 3rd party licensed software providers will also try to rip you off by not allowing you to use all of the Dolby functions as well with their basic packages.

That has been my thought too. I had found a program to allow use of that Bluray, but

then I erased the hard drive and reinstalled, but forgot the program that I had used.

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

No, your information was not useful. You bring out Windows 7 as a solution to Vista's shortcomings but, by design, continue with those shortcomings Because Microsoft has to pay royalitys, you chose not to include an impotant part of WMP. I have opened and used my Windows 7 software, so I can not return it but I can blog and you will be sorry for this omission. As you can see, one other person has already agreed with me on this blog, there will soon be thousands.  Microsoft is NOT short of money so don't give me any of that BS.

Here is 2/19/2015  and still the problem plagues us. I just recently upgraded my system to Win7 Pro with new hardware the works. Pop in my  I am Legend  BluRay disk and windows media player can't handle it.   I wont say anything demeaning, I think enough folks have formed enough negativism towards Microsoft as it is with there pricing and licensing polices. Just know Microsoft, that people are not gonna take this **** much longer and start switching to alternative OS since the majority of electric platforms that we use has many other choices that does not include Microsoft in providing use the consumer the tools and capabilities WE want. And not what Microsoft wants to push down on us.
