Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

    It really isn't that hard.

    If indeed,  you purchased a brand new computer and it came with a Blue Ray drive installed, then you should be talking to Dell or Sony or HP or whoever.

    You should be asking them why they sold you a system with a piece of equipment installed that you have no way to use.

    HI i have cyberlink(powerddvd) installed on my pc, (I have window 7). But the blu ray still doesnt work. I can play other movies, but not blu ray. Can you help me with this problem? Do you think i just should ask for a refund?

    What brand and model is your blu-ray player, and is it a blu-ray, not just a DVD player? What version of PowerDVD do you have?

    I also have the same exact issues. I cannot play bluray on even after market apps that are suppose to play .m2ts files I believe it is diffenately a problem with Windows 7. Something is broken and not allowing the video files to be viewed as the after market apps are playing them. I have audio just fine. And codecs just fine. Multiple 3rd party apps such as Media Theater 3 Plat., PowerDVD 10 Ultra, VLC, WinDVD pro,DIVX Plus, Ulead 11.5, Sony Vegas Pro 9e. And all in working condition. But NO Bluray video will be shown while trying to play using any of these apps. PowerDVD says unsupported file format when trying to play the stream files, Same with VLC, DIVX Pro BD player and Media Theater3. I'm almost completely convinced a MS Update KB or acouple of BSOD's has broken Win 7 in a way that causes this issue. But as bad as I hate to I think.  I'll have to do a clean reinstall and see if that will work to get them working again. Good Luck.
