Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

A.  It's only fair to assume that an OS or a media player in 2010 would support blu-ray. Especially when you buy a brand new computer, you don't expect to have to install extra software for such basic needs, we're not asking for the moon or some futuristic feature.

B.  Blu-ray is currently not supported by any OS, not sure what you mean.

C.  I agree for Home Premium, but when you are forking an extra $160 for Ultimate, you can see that people are not cheap and are willingly paying more money for more features.

D.  Exactly, and they fixed it for Vista. You'd expect Microsoft to learn from their past mistakes.

A true car analogy would be to buy a car in 2010 that comes with a CD player but no default or optional mp3 player/iPod connector. Sure, you can still play music, just not with the media you are actually using. While you can buy a third-party adapter, I'd much prefer one that is integrated by the car manufacturer, for which you can control the volume from the wheel, or which will pause playing music when your mobile phone rings.

Here is what I got out of reading all of this.

A.  People "assume" something will work without checking, then complain when it does not

B.  People "assume" that because it worked under one OS, it will work under another, then complain that it does not

C.  It's OK to yell at MS for not paying for a BD player license and say they are cheap, but it's not cheap for you to complain that you have to pay for it?

D.  Media Player also did not play DVDs under XP, this is not new

If I got out and buy tires for my car, and pick out some cool 20" ones, then go home and find out they they don't fit on my 15" wheels, should I yell at GoodYear because their tires suck and don't fit on my car?  I think GoodYear should buy me some 20" wheels, those cheapoes.

So why is even Sony into Blu-ray burners ?   :) 

sure, the quality of HD/BD is extremely good,...., whatever, but h264/matroska has the capability to far surpass even Blu-ray and its measly 1080p !

We know these corps are ALL to blame for this; Sony is the most to blame, and the most to lose here, then Microsoft, then the Hollywuss's, .... Its the same crying shame, and thats all it is. Atleast with a car when you buy it, you get the transmission with it so you can go somewhere, (its the gas they $crew us on), but here, we spend a LOT on the PC hardware, then BUY Windows 7...., then, and all for what so that at the end of the day I still cannot  "play" Blu-Ray on Media Player, .... Oh wait, but now its even "3D" and we all need that now too ?!,  Codecs, royalties, it's all a sham, and we all darn well know it. It's all just Sony wanting to sell you more junk accessories, and M$ with its DRM/hdcp is as everyone now knows - another pitiful joke. -they've ALL showed their colours, and the future is black for them, along with their "pitiful" Blu-Ray sales. -no one is buying a lot of these man

Think about it? Now that is why I wish all the best to Linux and all the FREE *ix's out there, the good news is, things like opensource h264, matroska, HTML5, OpenCL, ... these are the things that will work, as a great replacement, on our Driveable "public" Internet highway.  And that, they can never do anything about.

 I've even heard of some cool DVD ideas of manufacturing "special" 32-gig capacity dvd blanks. So, there you go ! h264/HD/BD/3D quality and more to come.

well, we could rip the blu-ray movie off of the disc with a blu-ray ripper, then play the movie file with VLC. i always do that
