Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

To everyone that is moaning about bluray it is only a stopgap. I have not seen a PC BD ROM that does not come with the playback SW. Bluray uses MPEG4 and for this there are many, many, many patents by all the greedy players. To add it into a product one must pay royalties to mpeg4LA. Check out their site and look at huge labyrinth of items that are covered. Now of course the cost will be per windows 7 license and this will be added into all packages whether one uses bluray or not. I use the coreavc H264 codec and it works great. The cost was $5.00.

Well, Cyberlink has done an awful lot to try and get me going. My hats off to them, and Amit in particular who has been outstanding in trying to assist me.

I never could get PowerDVD8, the player part, to install.

I did get the demo, version 10 to install, as well as PowerDVD9 to install.

Now it plays the Blu Ray movies.

However, now it stutters during playback ( both version 10 and 9 ).

So, I am on a new mission, yet relevant, to get the stuttering to stop.

Cyberlink states, either the version of their software either needs updating or the graphics driver needs updating or to be a newer version.

At least it records, I guess.

And, being a blu ray burner, I use it even for regular burning as it should be most accurate for lossless audio recording, yada, yada.

As far as playback, I may venture into overclocking or graphics replacement if that is at all possible, ( not sure ) I have a ATI Radeon HD 3200, so maybe not much I can do there.

You know, I did think about putting a 15" emblem on the front of my car just to be a smart _ _ _, but have not. That poster only got so much, becaause that poster may not have read everything or not get it, I guess.

Anyway, if your graphics card is a mac daddy version or is upgradable to one, playback is feasible with POWERDVD9 and 10.

If I could only lower the quality somehow, or upgrade my graphics somehow, I should play fine.

But, I think I am whipped now, and will just break down and get a PS3, and use that.

After, of course, Madden 11 comes out.

If that don't work, a hammer will.

Anyway, thanks for help fellow posters, and thanks for nothing MS as usual, it is bad when an individual not making any money from MS, helps those with MS issues, and not yourselves.

Shame on you MS.

But, anyway, I hope this helps someone, so they don't have to go through all I have, and in the many months it took.

My advice ?

Try the demo powerdvd 10, if it works, great.

If it stutters, check your graphics driver as having the most up to date version.

If it does and still stutters, then see if it is upgradeable ( graphics card ) ( buy and plug in a new one ) or not.

If it is not upgradeable, an external player of some form, and use for burn only or play of normal discs ( my case scenario, as I believe my motherboard impregnated graphics is not upgradeable ).

I find it interesting that the MS representative said that Microsoft doesn't support the VC-1 codec. That codec is required for all HD playback, including Blu Ray. There are others as well, but VC-1 is the primary. It's also interesting to note that Microsoft DEVELOPED that codec.

Another interesting note is that the VC-1 codec doesn't support multicore systems. It's a problem native to Windows 7. Multicore systems existed before Windows 7. So instead of fixing a problem beforehand, they simply let fly and waited until people noticed and said something. Even then, seeing as how Windows 7 has been out for a while now, waiting as long as possible.

I built this machine for gaming and movies. I finally thought I could finally watch Blu-Ray movies on this system without spending another $200+ on a Blu Ray player. It seems Microsoft isn't even trying to fulfill the needs of their customers.

Microsoft says they want to move into the future, but it seems they give no regard for mass technologies. Such as Blu-Ray, supporting animated GIFs, Disabling AutoPlay (That anoying feature that stops what you're watching in Windows Media Player 12, and plays what's on the disk you just inserted, without letting you resume what you were watching.), and various other things that I'm sure the viewers of this forum will be glad to add. And I just love the canned, copy and pasted, responses we get from their reps. They really don't offer any information at all, and they just copy and paste it multiple times.
