Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

    Admittlingly I should have researched more to find that Media Center will not play blu rays.  But my bd player did come with software that works.  However, I dont understand why MS cant SELL an addon for Media Center to take care of playback as seamlessly as playing a dvd (does an assome job).  I feel that many people would be willing to pay for the ability to only interface with Media Center and the os stays a back end that never has to be seen.

    lmfao @ all the people who think that it is normal that the most recent operating system such as Windows 7 Ultimate does not include technologies that are several years old, and that it is logical that it can play DVDs but not BDs.  ^-^

    lmfao @ all the people who paid for something before finding out what you were actually buying...

    i.e buying windows 7 before researching if it could play blu-ray out of the box...

    I also have the same exact issues. I cannot play bluray on even after market apps that are suppose to play .m2ts files I believe it is diffenately a problem with Windows 7. Something is broken and not allowing the video files to be viewed as the after market apps are playing them. I have audio just fine. And codecs just fine. Multiple 3rd party apps such as Media Theater 3 Plat., PowerDVD 10 Ultra, VLC, WinDVD pro,DIVX Plus, Ulead 11.5, Sony Vegas Pro 9e. And all in working condition. But NO Bluray video will be shown while trying to play using any of these apps. PowerDVD says unsupported file format when trying to play the stream files, Same with VLC, DIVX Pro BD player and Media Theater3. I'm almost completely convinced a MS Update KB or acouple of BSOD's has broken Win 7 in a way that causes this issue. But as bad as I hate to I think.  I'll have to do a clean reinstall and see if that will work to get them working again. Good Luck.
