Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

But you are not talking about the lack of compatibility issues! My uj-220 works with Vista but after my upgrade to Windows 7 , it is worthless. IT is NOT COMPATIBLE!!! Codec is NOT the problem, it IS Windows compatibility! Don't waste our time telling people this misinformation!!

People are playing BluRay on Windows 7, so obviously it is compatible, if it doesn't work with your driver, then it is a hardware issue.

You're right, it's not a codec issue, it's a driver issue. It would never be a codec issue; if you had a piece of hardware that worked in one OS, but not in a newer/different version. MS doesn't write drivers, the MFR of the hardware should be doing that.

1. I have been usung Newegg for a very long time and any problems were handled quickly and professionally, I am a customer not an employee. Did you buy OEM because the majority of items sold from Newegg are OEM because it costs less, you get your drive wrapped in bubble wrap and put in a box and shipped. You my want verify if you did or didn't buy an OEM. If you bought OEM all you got was the, probably not even cables or anything other than the drive, and Newegg owes you nothing. READ PRODUCT DESCRIPTION BEFORE ORDERING TO INSURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BUYING.
2. Most hardware don't really care about the OS being ran. Going from 32-bit to 64-bit may cause a problem if the hardware drivers or firmware isn't 64 bit compatable you get no worky worky. This boils down to knowing the spec of your hardware before you just through it all together and hope you roll a 7. Once again operator error.
3. From everything you have stated it seems to lean more about human capabilities VS Microfts lack of ability considering you moved stuff off a 32 bit machine to a 64 bit machine before ever checking to see if it was in the compatibility listing on the MS website.
Hope this might help some folks out there.

Even if you pay $50, that isn't going to fix the problem... it's uncompatible with Windows 7 and paying isn't going to change anything!
