Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

Yo, Here's a NEW scenario:

Total fresh install of Win 7 Premium, on a sony vgn-fw170j

 then tried the Sony downloads of WINDVD in the correct order as mentioned in this thread: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7pictures/thread/a5bf1f3f-33c4-4502-ae2e-42cbd8f9d341?prof=required

But this  does not work!

Then tried the download of Total theatre 5, but no go also.

Why is this not enough?

I paid for Roxio Cine player BD but when I did my fresh install and tried to re-download what I paid for, they wouldn't let me since it was more than 30 days!

Whoa, I never saw that in the fine print. Word of warning to everyone.

Am I missing something?

I completely agree with you pjturner07.  I also bought a SONY VAIO in Dec. 2010 that already had Windows 7 on it.  It was supposed to be able to play blu rays  also, but there was an update 3 months later and since then the blu ray program no longer works.  We paid a lot of extra money for that feature to only be able to use it about 4 times.  We kept being told they'd look in to it and get back to us, but almost a year later no one has.  I finally gave up after over 20 calls and having spent 2 to 8 hours per call on the phone, or chat, with techs who never did a darn thing but waste my time.  I even had to schedule 3 appointments with them in which I had to take time off of work to try and deal with the issue because they were not available during hours that I was not at work, and then they wouldn't even call at the scheduled appointment times.  I really wish I knew of a way to deal with this problem so that the customers weren't the ones being screwed over, but all I got was a huge run around and huge amounts of exhaustion and frustration.  Having spent 3 days of 8 hours each day dealing with techs, not to mention all the 2 to 4 hour conversations, I believe I was more than patient.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you Ryan. The numerous responses that have continued into 2011 agreeing with Patrick should be evidence enough that maybe you are the one in the minority this time.  Your PC can be hooked up to you TV and used as a Blu Ray player, it's not just for watching them on your PC.

I've been using total media theatre 3 with Windows 7 home premium x64 for ages now and for the moment it works fine over vga without any extra decryption software. They're supposidly going to start disabling 1080p HD over analouge in the future but atm it works for me.

I can't wait for Blu-ray to die mostly because of HDCP. I don't mind the AACS tbh but I think blacklisting older hardware for basically no gain is ridiculous. Who is going to record a digital signal when you can always decrypt films in faster than real time on the PC, no matter what encryption they come up with.

tl;dr

1. Get total media theatre. It's the best way to play Blu-ray films on a PC.
2. Microsoft don't owe you anything extra than the OS... How come Windows can't handle RAR files out of the box?? Same thing.
