Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

That link that Anita M ($MSFT support engineer) keeps reiterating in her posts, has to be the dumbest link ever in terms of answering the question at bay! And more so, its now nearly 1.5 years past her first answer to this question, and still, no solution from $MSFT...really???? 2011...really?!

In 2011, I can't use my Windows7 OS and built in player to play a BluRay as native??? Serious???? Anyone think of having a version of the OS that does, or is thinking outside the box difficult here?!

I just found out the hard way. Despite all my friends advising to go with linux i purchased a copy of Windows 7 ($200) only to discover that I cannot play blurays without risking an additional investment in a 3rd party software or going with some sketchy program.

This is really disappointing and i am flat out wasting my time typing this because microsoft doesn't care. Get with it and invest some of the hard earned money we invested into you to make our products work the way you have promised.

Eventually this will catch up though. You can leave your consumers high and dry for so long before they realize to go to a better alternative...only time until google makes and open source OS for free to integrate with android...then the tables will turn.

Did you not even bother to read any of these posts or are you just a troll?

So you bought a new computer and you don't know if it plays bluray, you just think your out of luck. Have you tried or are you "just reading"?

If you really did (and I doubt it) bought a new HP computer *with* a bluray drive, then it will play bluray and if it doesn't, **** to HP. They should have included a player, if they sold you a drive with the system.

BTW, why does Apple get a pass for not supporting bluray yet, they had had as much time as MS has, heck, they don't even support Flash, why do you think they ever will support bluray? Oh yead, I forgot: MS bad, Apple good.
