Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

    Well, this is a PATHETIC issue with MS. But the so called solutions from Cyberlink are a scam. 

    I bought a top-of-the-line HP PC running Win7-64. With a Blue-Ray player in it :-) ....and Windows won't play it.

    Then I bought the Cyberlink DVD software and it worked for a short while before it asked me to install "updates" (mind you not "upgrades") That essentially was a mislabeled upgrade which apparently removed my legit version and even with my digital key and credit card reciet I could not do anything. Cyberlink will not even talk to you unless you pay them for the new version, nor will they offer online help unless the same.

    This should be illegal and instead of the government going after P2P transfers only they should go after some of these basstards who scam you right in your face.

    Not so much a Media Centre as a media slightly off to the side, with a limited shelf life supporting dying or dead formats. That's the way to bring the kids in Microsoft well done. I should think Apple are shaking in their boots. Ha!!

    Is there some part of the thread that you don't understand?

    Don't answer non-questions from over 2 years ago, when the 25 other pages of more recent posts say that we would gladly pay extra for a native Blu-ray player, just like we currently play extra for Windows more expensive editions like Ultimate.

    Well I can't blame you anyway, the other pages are not accessible since Microsoft redesigned the forum last year, unless you use invisible magic tricks like pressing Enter after entering manually the page number because there is no Enter, Next, or Last button. And the link in the email goes to the first post in the first page, not to the actual post referenced in the email.
