Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

Hi Patrick,

As we know that Blu-Ray is a patented technology so it requires appropriate codecs to be purchased and hence we cannot include it in our Operating System.

To play a Blu-ray Disc, you need to use a non-Microsoft program that supports Blu-ray playback and a device capable of reading Blu-ray Discs.

Are you a **** or what? BLU RAY IS PATENTED!!! Meaning Microsoft does not own the rights to use it! If they did they would be sued!

Fully agree. I just put a Blu-Ray player into my PC and use Power DVD to watch DVDs. People complain enough about the O/S costs - why add even more expense for a minority (large minority) of users.

So Basically, Microsoft aren't allowed to develop technology to tie you into MS only products, or even as with IE encorporate it into the OS as that's shoving out competitor browsers? (BS IMHO)

But Apple are allowed to produce products that tie you in.... EG IPOD/ITUNES and all music is converted and can only be used on the 1 device, an Apple device.

And because they won't sign to implement JAVA, they aren't allowed to implment BD playback, when I assume BD-J is a different type of java application.

BUT... the open source world is allowed to supply open office to read MS office documents?

So basically there's a massive worldwide anti MS establisment, permitting worldwide competitors to do things that MS aren't allowed.

Don't get me wrong I don't think any of them should, which is why, apple have lost themselves lots of customers, like me they don't want to be tied into apple devices for their music. After all how would I burn mp3cd's for my car? or listen to MY music on my works laptop where i'm not allowed to install itunes.
