Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

If DVD player is NOT BlueRay compatible, it won't play BlueRay discs, simple as that.

Microsoft was competing against Sony trying to push HD DVD against Sony Blu-ray as the new dominant format for digital media. Sony packaged blu-ray on the PS3 while Microsoft forced the consumer to buy a separate peripheral if they wanted to watch an HD DVD.Ultimately, blu-ray one and HD DVD was discontinued.

Yes and No, HD Format was in the market before the BlueRay and Sony, Sanyo, Bush, Panasonic etc. etc. and other makes did make HD DVD players and released them to the market for sale to the public right! Right! So, why did Sony and the other makes have or had the right to make a HD DVD players that requires HD software (that Microsoft has the rights to) to operate and Microsoft can`t have the BlueRay codecs for the media player?

You are right though about Microsoft trying to inflate their sales by selling the HD peripherals separately mainly with XBOX consoles and that cost them dearly as people turned to Blueray. But, this could be the chance for Microsoft to put things right and sort the bloody Blueray compatibility issue with the Media player...

In my opinion it is just a conspiracy and Microsoft needs to address the issue and sort it out PRONTO!!!!. Release an windows update for the Media Player to support Blueray. That should be it.

Think of MGS ( Metal Gear Solid) by KONAMI, Sony owed the rights to it and the game was only sold for Sony Playstation consoles AND NOW YOU CAN BUY IT FOR X-BOX 360... and that`s great (: But The bottom line is that Microsoft can do it, they can sort the Blueray issue with Media Player but, why aren't they?

And not forgetting to mention the bitter FACT that SONY and other manufacturers make BLUE-RAY DVDR RW PLAYERS / DEVICES TO PLAY Blueray DVD`s to be used with Microsoft WINDOWS on any PC running WINDOWS...... and blah... blah.... blah....

So what the F*** is this horse sh*t about...Microsoft???

In other words, SONY says We will make a BLUERAY DVD RW player for your Computer that you can use to play Blueray MOVIES ON YOUR PC but we will not give you or Microsoft the codecs or software to play the DVDs on the Microsoft Windows Media Player...... It just doesnt make sense...... Microsoft is getting to reach on our expense and they don't give a damn any more. FFS sort this out Microsoft.

I as well am trying to sort out my BlueRay issue with the Windows Media Player on WIN7 PRO. This thread has been going on for 4 years now and it sadly seems that Microsoft has done absolutely nothing about it. Am I wrong?

Motherboards, GPUs, CPUs, PC Monitors and most PC hardware are nowdays built to support FULL HD and BLUERAY play back...... and don't forget that the 3D BlueRay is out now....everything is advancing and Microsoft is going into a hibernating mode....Microsoft, WAAAKE UUUP!!! We need your support and dedication on this.

Windows Media Player is more than capable of playing Blueray DVDs and the solution is simple: Microsoft needs to wake up, get a grip and release an update for the Media Player to support Blueray Playback on WIN7 and all their other WIN operating systems products instead of recommending a 3rd party software that could potentially cause problems. They are simply being Hypocrites and ignoring the fact that more people need support with the Blueray playback software on their PCs and we need it NOW!!! after all it would be an improvement with a positive impact to their products that millions of people have bought in good faith, instead of wasting more money on a 3rd party software, since Microsoft OS (Operating System) Software doesn`t exactly  come cheap anyway....

Instead of improving WIN7 to its full potential in such a short time line after the release of WIN7, they go and release WIN8 that regretfully I have purchased and found it to be yet another WIN VISTA repeating itself with all the incompatibility errors and system crashes, waste of money (WIN8 is totally unstable, rubbish by the way, I have now uninstalled WIN8 and reinstalled WIN7 PRO)

Also AMD,ATI and NVIDIA support HD and BlueRay with their GPU products, Why don`t Microsoft step up to it and sort this out?

Any of you found the solution to solve the BlueRay playback problem with the Media Player other than buying a 3rd party software?
