Windows 7 Media player will not play back BluRay disc's

That article does not explain how to play blurays, it merely explains why support is not included with media player.  For instructions on how to play blu-ray videos with media player, see this article:

sounds good...BUT..I already have a blu ray player, so buying one just for the software seems silly, and, you better check to make sure that's not a trial version, and only good for 30 days! lol (that's how my computer came.)

I just installed Windows 7 premium home,full retail 64 bit version. I was surprised to find media player does not support BluRay playback. I read the previous post in this forum and see, as far back as May, that Microsoft was aware of the codec issues with BluRay playback on Win. 7

What is Microsoft doing to solve this glaring issue. BluRay has been around for a long time and I'm sure thousands of Windows 7 customers are going to be in the same boat as me. There are NO codec available through a Google search ( 64 bit) and I would be very reluctant to use one off the internet anyway (Virus issues)

my system:

CASE Coolermaster HAF 922, Asus P7P55D PREMIUM ATX motherboard, Quad core I7 860, memory 8GB 1333 > 1800 DDR3 dual channel, GPU Asus GTX660 Factory Oveclocked, HD OCZ AGILITY 120GB SSD, LG BLUERAY DVD RW + 2X SONY DVDRW, CREATIVE Sound Blaster Z, OS WIN7 PRO 64-bit, AKASA PSU 1000W.

Further to my experience, research comments and replay to this thread I have now resolved the Issue with my Blueray DVD RW Player. I decided to have another look into the box my LG Blueray player came with as it was a double boxed and to my surprise I found the CD with the drivers that contained the CYBERLINK POWER DVD 10 PLAYER software.

After installing the full suite of the provided software by LG I can now use my Blueray Player. Syberlink PowerDVD 10 Player came as part of the LG driver suite together with another ton of amazing features. I am truly amazed, it works perfectly and in FULL screen size. See above for my system specs.

The issue with windows media player still remains though, media player does NOT play the Blueray DVD`s 

So, if you are in the same boat as me then you will need to find the drivers for your device from the drivers CD that came with it or Download the driver suite from the manufacturers website for the Blueray Device you have. PowerDVD 10 works perfectly for me with WINDOWS 7 PRO.

 I am glad that LG has put the effort to include the POWERDVD 10 software with the BlueRay player AS IF IT WAS LEFT INTO Microsoft`s HANDS WE WOULD BE IN THE DARK FOR CENTURIES TO COME.

I hope this will help anyone that is looking for the solution the problem.

If DVD player is NOT BlueRay compatible, it won't play BlueRay discs, simple as that.

Of course it would not, I totally agree with you on that, but you have misread the thread and that's not the case.

I do have a BlueRay player & Rewriter installed and so do the other people that have started the thread since 2009. The problem is the Windows Media Player NOT playing BLUERAY DVDs as by default the windows media player is set to play CDs, DVD`s and downloaded movie/music files on Microsoft WIN7 OS.
