Windows 7 Aero Disabled - How can I enable it again?

I purchased a new HP Envy 15 which had Windows 7 installed in it.  Aero was activated.  A few days later, Aero has been somehow disabled and I can't activate it again.  I used the Troubleshooting utility in Windows 7 for Aero -- it says that nothing is wrong.  I also tried un-checking and checking the various options in the visual effects menu.

Can somebody please help me?  I'm not sure when or how Aero was disabled; the computer did crash and went blank once, and I had to reboot.  I'm not sure if that disabled Aero.

Thanks.

Actually, I just found another thread on the HP website (  http://www.thenextbench.com/t5/HP-Envy-Notebooks/seems-that-all-my-Envy-15-problems-are-not-unique/m-p/50174 ) that reveals that the Aero problems on the Envy 15 are a commmon situation.

The suggested solution is uninstalling stardock.

I uninstalled Stardock and my Aero problem was instantlly fixed

. . . and HP tech support wanted me to do a System recovery/system restore--good grief!!

I am experience the same problem but with the Dell Inspiron N5010  I have tried the Regedit but all not options show up as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM the option that shows up as the nearest option does not have Three DWORD (32-bit value) entry

UseMachineCheck, and set its value to 0.  But I do have a 64-bit version of windows 7 not 32 like the option.

    Please reply to this

Now I have more problems with my pc, and it's still under warrenty, but I have to back up all my personal

information and have to by an external hard drive. This is what hp says, and I haven't heard from microsoft. They just said a drive isn't good but sent no clues on what to do.  I think both hp and microsoft should put their heads together and fix this problem. HP said it's corrupted and both microsoft and hp can

take this machine and either do it all themselves or send me a new one. I thought that is what is called a warrenty. Now I understand why so many people like apple. HP used to be one of the best, and I used to understand when microsoft helped out. But looks like the good ole days are gone. jill (me too)
