Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    Under Vista I had a problem with USB audio devices. Not any of them worked. MS Support kept telling me my sound card was bad even though it worked with WinXP.  I eventually gave up and closed the trouble ticket and installed Linux. "Another one closed" is what I heard one support person yell out just before the phone hung up.  Now we got another audio problem with Windows 7 and MS Support is again absolutely no help and again I install Linux. Linux developers must really love MS Support for throwing customers their way.

    It's incredible that so many people have the same problem and Microsoft seems to be doing nothing. I'm from Brazil and I have an HDMI audio device too, Windows 7 Ultimate and an microphone lag :)

    I've already tried everything you guys mentioned... updating drivers, changing the default device from HD Audio to AC'97, removing the "listen to this device" functionality but nothing worked. Hope we can get a solution as soon as possible or Microsoft can be sure that Windows 7 will not be recomended by me. I'm almost going back to XP.

    where am i ??? at Social Answers Microsoft ??? no way..  you must be kidding

    i spent more than 3 hrs reading and trying every thing

    os : win 7 64bit

    Sound itegrated with motherboard ep45-ud3r Realtek last updated drive

    in my case the delay is between 100 to 200 msecs after trying every thing written here , plz  i need that fix asap , i'm a video editor and this 100msec makes a huge effect in lipsync for example

    every thing was perfect on my xp , win7 is not for professionals anymore

    many problems with my drawing tablet , photoshop brush delay , flash pencil drawing in real time  , static sounds in media player , and after solving all of these now i can't get rid of this mic lag \ delay recoeding

    do some thing plz , any answer from Microsoft plz

    i lost my whole day reading and trying , i'm wasting time and money every hr without this fix

    Hi people... try refreshing your computer's Windows Experience Index. After clicking on the "Re-run Assessment" link, you will be informed of your key system components rate. i had sound delay when i got a 1.0 base score coz windows informed me i should install a higher version video card. i have a 2.5 base score now and i don't have any sound delay anymore. btw, i also am using Vista_Win7_R246 for audio. i can play my guitar through the computer's speakers now ^_^
