Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording. This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo. Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

It sounds like you have a pretty good system. I bet you are proud of that sound card so instead of saying change it I will say dont get a realtek or you will still have the problem but add a cheap sound older sound card. I know that sounds strange but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the old raggedy sound card you have in the closet will likely fix this problem. I had the problem on two systems now. One with xp and now windows 7 and window was not the problem it was the sound card. This explains why some computers have the problem and some do not. The problem lies with the sound card and drivers. For real try an old sound card or get one a cheaper one and I think you will find some truth to this. Good Luck!

"The problem lies with the sound card and drivers" yes, but only in windows 7. They really need to address this. Most people who buy computers with windows 7 that want to record are screwed. Yeah, it works for some, but according to a lot of talk on the web, a lot of people are not happy. I've been able to record through the "line in jack" since 1999 with windows 98 and now I can't. I know my way around a computer and have tried everything... then all I get from MS is "It appears the X-Fi Xtreme Audio does not have a hardware loopback" Well, it appears that you shouldn't have a hardware loopback then, becasue Dell bundles their machines with X-Fi Xtreme Audio!!!!!!!

Its crazy how all of these people have the same exact problem with their audio as I do, and here I come hoping there is an answer to the issue, and low and behold there isn't. I may as well had never bought a new computer. I have to record and I don't like recording music without hearing playback of my vocals LIVE in my headphones, speakers w/e. I feel like I wasted a ____ load of money.
