Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

OK, please tell me how I can do it. Where do I go and what do I look for? I read back through this forum thread and I'm not picking up on what you found. What you describe makes a lot of sense and it sounds like a registry entry.

We should NOT have to pay Microsoft for the solution to this problem.

Microsoft created a delay in the microphone and made it the default. Microsoft needs to provide a way to remove that delay. I saw an answer that had something to do with changing a binary 01 to 00, but I have no idea what they are talking about. Judging by the hundreds of threads on various forums, this is not an isolated problem with some driver. The answer provided by the Microsoft rep is not the answer to this problem. When the delay appears in the microphone with no software running except Windows, it's a Windows problem.

To start with, let me tell you that I have an IDT sound card and not many people use it.

these are the steps i followed

if you can create a system restore point that would be good., i m sure u know how to do it.

--- start -> run -> regedit--- go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\filter\Speakerthere should be an entry which says "DisableMicInFromRender" --  (if you dont find it then look for the entry "DisableMicInFromRender" in any of the subkeys (apart from "Speaker/ SpeakerHP" on the left column)

---double click on it OR -- right click and choose modify

---set its binary value to 0000 00 -- (at first it should have 0000 01, change it by replacing 01 by 00)---exit registry and restart the machine. Very important!!--- right click on the sound icon in the notification bar and choose playback devices.--- double click on the default playback device (speakers) to check if you have now got volume slider (horizontal) for Microphone- there should be a Mute/Unmute button as well. Unmute the microphone to be able to listen to your mic/guitar.click on ok--now again go to recording devices and choose the mic (the one posing the problem)-- go to tab "listen" and UNCHECK the option Listen to deviceall should be good. Let me know if that worked!!!!

It would've been nice, though, if you say which soundcard you have. Read this. My mobo soundcard is Realtek, but i think it's the same for any sound card with its own audio manager. If you've updated the drivers already, skip step 1, but only if you used the installer. Installing the new drivers from the device manager doesn't work as, probably, the sound card audio manager it's not installed, only the drivers.

• Step 1, download and install (uninstalling the old ones first) the latest drivers available for your sound card, if possible, from the manufacturer's site.
• Step 2, it's very important that you change the Control Panel view from "Categories" to "Large Icons". You'll see why later. A couple of captures in case you don't know where to look. My W7 it's in spanish, but i'm sure the menus are in the same place.

• Step 3, go to Control Panel-Sound and click on "Recording" tab (or right click on the speaker icon at the systray and choose "Recording devices"). Look for the line-in or mic giving trouble and double click on it to open its properties window. Then click on the "Listen" tab. Once there, uncheck the "listen to this device" box and make sure that you've selected the default playback device.

• Step 4, click on the Playback tab and make sure that your sound card is set as default playback device properly. For instance:

• Step 5, click on "apply", "ok" and get out of there.
• Step 6, open the Control Panel and try to find your sound card audio manager. That's why is so important to change the view from categories to large (or small, anyway) icons. In the categories view you will never find it, but in the large icons view should appear. In my case, if you look again at the second image, it appears under the name "Administrador de sonido Realtek" (Realted audio manager). I also have a C-Media sound card and its audio manager is there too. So I guess that, whatever sound card you have, the audio manager should be there. Double click on the icon to open the sound card audio manager. First of all, click on the "device advanced settings" and select "separate all input jacks as independent devices", as Dissfigured already said. The manager window will fade for a few seconds and then you should be able to configure every device separately, line in or mic, and adjusting the recording and playback volumes for each. Then click "Ok" and that's all, folks.

For the C-Media sound card it's even easier, because everything can be configured in the same window.

And that way, I got rid of the lag in both sound cards with both line in and mic, playback or recording. The problem persists, although, if your mic or line in device is USB, because the sound card doesn't recognize it (unless your sound card have a USB connector) and the only way to configure it is by W7 audio manager, so welcome back lag.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have been looking for my sound card audio manager in the control panel but I could not find it. I have a Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Audio card. I did, however, find a program called Creative Console Launcher. I fired it up and it lets you edit certain things but it does not have the seperate function you mentioned. I'll keep looking for it, maybe I am missing it. Do you have any idea where to go from here?
