Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording. This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo. Anyone else having this problem?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

Ok, that's what I got 'til now. I've installed a CMedia 8738 soundcard and now everything is working fine, of course, because Xear3D, the software bundled with the card, overrides W7 controls. The only problem is the sound quality, not as fine as the Realtek HD gives.

I second tricky2k. I got to express my utter disappointment with Microsoft with it's so-called Vista-screw-up-fix -- Windows 7.

All these sort of "update driver" stuff does not work at all. This, I have to say, is definitely NOT a driver issue. Moreover, consumers dislike copy+paste information, especially when they are absolutely useless; we feel as though our support requests are not being taken seriously by the developers.

I am a musician and often record audio from a mic-in setup with my PC. It worked just fine with my 5-year old PC (ran on XP).

However, I've "upgraded" (or should I say downgraded?) to Windows 7 Home Premium x64 upon building up a new and high-performance computer. However like many of my friends had claimed -- Windows 7 is totally useless for live recordings with the current issue going on.

The 0.5seconds playback delay may sound like a very small digit, but that makes a huge difference in terms of rhythm and tempo. Musicians requires such delays to be at a minimal of a tiny fraction of a second. Even a 0.1s delay could pose quite a big problem, hence having a few projects of mine delayed because of this.

I'd like to urge Microsoft technicians to fix this widely complained issue, and put this as one of the top priorities upon the next update release. It has caused frustration amongst many other musicians working with Windows 7 on other forums. This has got to stop.

On a side note: I have to say, if Microsoft is indeed having a "competition" with Apple's Mac like how the media proclaims it, you guys failed miserably in terms of customer satisfaction.

I can't believe nobody can figure out a solution to this problem. It seems like Microsoft isn't even trying to figure it out. Something as simple as not having a delay when you plug in a microphone.

I'm a PC, and Microphone lag was not my idea

doesnt work. There is a problem with your OS. Just state that this is fixable or not so I know whether to take this garbage back to the store and get a MAC BOOK.
