Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Okay!!

To start with, let me tell you that I have an IDT sound card and not many people use it.

these are the steps i followed

if you can create a system restore point that would be good., i m sure u know how to do it.

--- start -> run -> regedit--- go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000\Settings\filter\Speakerthere should be an entry which says "DisableMicInFromRender" --  (if you dont find it then look for the entry "DisableMicInFromRender" in any of the subkeys (apart from "Speaker/ SpeakerHP" on the left column)

---double click on it OR -- right click and choose modify

---set its binary value to 0000 00 -- (at first it should have 0000 01, change it by replacing 01 by 00)---exit registry and restart the machine. Very important!!--- right click on the sound icon in the notification bar and choose playback devices.--- double click on the default playback device (speakers) to check if you have now got volume slider (horizontal) for Microphone- there should be a Mute/Unmute button as well. Unmute the microphone to be able to listen to your mic/guitar.click on ok--now again go to recording devices and choose the mic (the one posing the problem)-- go to tab "listen" and UNCHECK the option Listen to deviceall should be good. Let me know if that worked!!!!

Microsoft created a delay in the microphone and made it the default. Microsoft needs to provide a way to remove that delay. I saw an answer that had something to do with changing a binary 01 to 00, but I have no idea what they are talking about. Judging by the hundreds of threads on various forums, this is not an isolated problem with some driver. The answer provided by the Microsoft rep is not the answer to this problem. When the delay appears in the microphone with no software running except Windows, it's a Windows problem.

OK, please tell me how I can do it. Where do I go and what do I look for? I read back through this forum thread and I'm not picking up on what you found. What you describe makes a lot of sense and it sounds like a registry entry.

We should NOT have to pay Microsoft for the solution to this problem.

I am running Windows 7 (32 bit) on a Dell Latitude E4200.  I followed the instructions for Vista. It tells you to find a registry key called SpeakerHP, i could only find HpOut and Speaker1, so i added the value to both of those and rebooted.  Now i have a microphone option on my levels tab on the properties from my speaker...which also plays in my headphones, WONDERFUL!  No delay.  But seriously microsoft needs to fix the feature "Listen to.." on the microphone...i should not have to edit my registry or be dependent on my hardware driver for this sort of mic monitoring / voice feedback feature.

This worked for me.

I tried creating the new binary entries "EnableInputMonitor" under settings, Speaker aswell as HpOut. Didnt work

But then there was an opton "DisableMicInFromRender" under speaker. Its binary was set to 01. I changed it to 00

• restarted the computer and when i checked the properties for speaker (playback) i could see a new section for Mic Volume.. Unmuted the volume.. and there was no delay at all.. while playing the guitar.

Also i didnt have to check the "listen to " option under the ext mic,,, recorder section.. -- pretty useless now.
