Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

Thanks,

Chris

i have conexant audio and this almost works for me but makes the audio very choppy. it's an improvement that's for sure but still wouldn't be a realistic option for me to be able to record with :( am i setting things up wrong?

i signed it. i almost felt guilt at first doing so, until i realized that really all i care about is a solution and i'd never have signed the petition had microsoft jumped on this problem faster and provided us a solution.. or at least made us feel like they cared! no offense to Chris.. we realize you're trying to help, but dont you have any Microsoft buddies up there that can assist you? It seems that you alone are not able to fix this.

well that's a bit harsh i understand your grief but mac isn't the solution. if someone threw a mac at me to record with i'd be even more horrified. this is simple, if we complain enough there must be a solution! i do feel like we are being overlooked and this is pretty important.

interesting, i also notice it in my video editing. when i produce the video it applies the audio delay. so i cannot compress it too many times or edit too much because soon the audio wont match the lips at all! i can tell when it goes from scene to scene that the audio doesn't match. my laptop ONLY RUNS WIN 7 so i cannot just put XP on it :(
