Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    also, someone else I know has the same problem and they reistalled XP and everything is fine...  That is in no way an acceptable fix..

    Hi,

    It appears the X-Fi Xtreme Audio does not have a hardware loopback. There should be an option in the Creative control panel for a software loopback. It may have the same latency issues though.

    So basically a simple task that I was able to do back on windows 98, ME, XP and Vista is gone…

    Is it too much to hope for a fix when service pack one comes out?    Or a fix at some point?

    If not, then what Sound Card should I get??

    Doesn't seem to make much sense to have a hardware loopback if the soundcards that ship with most windows 7 machines don't support it

    I've found a workaroundt to the problem on my HP 1037 netbook using a StarTech.com C-Media USB device which we use for Internet broadcasting.

    I opened the Sound control panel and unchecked Listen to this Device from the Microphone properties on the recording tab.

    I opened the Speaker properties from the Playback tab and selected levels which shows Volume Control and Microphone levels. The speaker icon on the Microphone levels shows as being muted. Clicked on it to unmute and it started sending microphone output through the speaker without any delay.

    I also let Windows update the driver for the StarTech device before making the changes above did it, but the delay is no longer there.
