Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording. This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo. Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

FINALLY!!! I RESOLVEDMY LATENCY ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been like 6 months I've been trying to, so I feel like I HAVE TO share with you guys how I did it... I searched on numerous occasions to find the solution for the latency issue... It's not the mic, it's not the driver, it's not the sound card... It's windows 7! I think they did it on purpose so I wouldn't be able to record music that changes peoples mind!!!! ha

Equipment:

HP dv6100 Laptop (running Win 7 Ultimate Edition)

MXL 990 USB Microphone (plugged directly into 2.0 USB port)

Adobe Audition 3.0

SOLUTION:

From Adobe Audition 3.0 Multitrack View, select -Edit then -Audio Hardware Setup

Open the Control Panel and find your microphones name in the lower window andmake sure it has an X next to it

Now, to the right of your mic's name, on the same line, there are several numbers... Double click on the one in the column labeled -Offset [Samples]

Now enter the value of your latency! That's it!!! WHEW WHOOOO! I hope this helps!!!

To convert the latency value from time into samples just go into Multitrack View locate the window labeledSelection/View . Enter in the amount of time of the delay into theRight of the Selection box*&Underneath Begin* . Thenright click on the Time Line , just above theSelection/View window, go toDisplay Time Format and selectSamples ... The number will change from time to samples!

I too have the problem of the .5sec lag. I've tried the solutions above and, like most, none have worked. It does seem that people that are getting answers are specific to their pc specs. So, here are mine and PLEASE HELP. I got this pc for music production purposes.

Thanks Brahmacj. This actully worked on my dv4 2045 dx laptop running win 7 IDT sound ____ card.....I can hear the mic in real time now...the only issue I have now is how do I control the "monitoring" volume when record / play at the same time?...I can hear myself but its very low. Im using calkwalk Pro 9 for multitrack recording vocals and audio. Any sugestions?

For everyone else who's unhappy with Windows 7, you should be, because all it is.....is Vista renamed!!! Im a PC and renaming vista to windows 7 wasnt my idea!! Bring back XPs audio configuration with real time monitoring and zero latency!!!!

I picked up a HP Dv4 2045 running: AMD Turion™ IIProcessor Speed2.3GHz Cache Memory1MB on die Level 2System Memory (RAM)4GBSystem Memory (RAM) Expandable To8GBType of Memory (RAM)DDR2 DIMMHard Drive TypeSATA (7200 rpm)Computer Hard Additional Audio/Video Connectors HDMI Audio: Altec Lansing support with SRS Premium Windows Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I need to be able to monitor recording in real time with near zero latency....Ive tried every sugestion here in this forum with no success when utilizing a usb microphone iterface. Is there a driver update for Altec Lansing soundcard....or can I run a realtek driver to get the functionality I need? I thought you have to run the driver for your hardware for it to run properly but, windows 7 sound manager is wak and wont allow me the realtime monitoring, there at least a .5 to 1 sec lag...this wont work. Why was this not a problem in XP??? I NEED HELP TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE!!!!
