Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    Hey c33!

    I had the same problem for a while.  It ended up fixing itself with automatic updates but it took a pretty long time for the problem to be detected by windows.  I found out that all I needed was an updated driver for my contexant smartaudio soundcard.

    I'm not exactly sure where you can find the driver, but the name of it is Conexant HD2 Smartaudio Driver...

    I've a brand new Toshiba notebook running Windows 7 64 with a Conexant Smartaudio soundcard.  No mic/line inputs or mic monitoring available beyond the "listen to this" option with the .5 second delay.

    Ridiculous.

    I've an external (usb) sound card on the way, and I'm hoping this will give me the mic monitoring / hardware loopback I need.

    Has anyone found using an external sound card solves this problem?

    LATENCY ISSUE RESOLVED!!!

    In Adobe Audition 3.0 I fixed the latency issue by designating an offset value for the recording. 

    The option is located under -Edit  -Audio Hardware Setup   -Control Panel  -Recording Devices

    Figure out how many samples is equal to the amount of time of your latency, and enter it in the Section titled Offset Samples, next to your microphones name... BOOM!!!  No more latency on the recording!!!

    FINALLY!!!  I RESOLVEDMY LATENCY ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It's been like 6 months I've been trying to, so I feel like I HAVE TO share with you guys how I did it...  I searched on numerous occasions to find the solution for the latency issue... It's not the mic, it's not the driver, it's not the sound card...  It's windows 7!  I think they did it on purpose so I wouldn't be able to record music that changes peoples mind!!!! ha

     

    Equipment:

    HP dv6100 Laptop (running Win 7 Ultimate Edition)

    MXL 990 USB Microphone (plugged directly into 2.0 USB port)

    Adobe Audition 3.0

     

    SOLUTION:

    From Adobe Audition 3.0 Multitrack View, select -Edit then -Audio Hardware Setup

    Open the Control Panel and find your microphones name in the lower window andmake sure it has an X next to it

    Now, to the right of your mic's name, on the same line, there are several numbers...  Double click on the one in the column labeled -Offset [Samples]

    Now enter the value of your latency!  That's it!!!  WHEW WHOOOO! I hope this helps!!!

    To convert the latency value from time into samples just go into Multitrack View locate the window labeledSelection/View .  Enter in the amount of time of the delay into theRight of the Selection box*&Underneath Begin* .  Thenright click on theTime Line , just above theSelection/View window, go toDisplay Time Format and selectSamples ...  The number will change from time to samples!
