Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    Hello Everyone-I have also been dealing with this proplem since day 1 with win7. There are statements all over the internet that this is a Microsoft Problem but it appears as no one wants to address a "fix" Has anyone tried the "Leatrix Latency Fix" or does it only work with games

    Under the microphone properties in Windows 7 on the Listen tab there is an option "Listen to this device". Turn that off and the echo should go away. I had the same problem and unchecking this "feature" fixed it.

    I have found the fix to this problem first go to www.asio4all.com then download and install. Read the instruction pdf that comes with it and follow the instructions. This worked for me and my friends. I am back to recording with no delay!!!

    I know others have tried this with no success. I was one of them. I downloaded it and nothing happened.

    But now I know that's because the ASIO doesn't run or become active until a connection between a software program and your computer's sound card is made.

    I'm able to select and run the ASIO via Ableton Live.  This *does* take care of my latency issues.  There's still an extremely tiny delay, but as is, I am now able to record, monitor and overdub my vocals.

    With that said, the fact that it was incredibly difficult to find a semi-concrete solution for such a basic process --with a brand new computer and operating system-- is beyond shocking and disappointing.

    I think copy protection is behind these (mic/line in, stereo mix, etc.) functions being removed, and I think the sound card and computer manufacturers, as well as Microsoft, have all played a role in it.

    This worked for me!  So far so good. We'll see what happens after a day or two. Thank you very much. I didn't think it would work considering i tried updating drivers with no success. but this sequence must have been the key.

    External Soundcard - Firewire 4/10.
