Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    • From which application are you trying to record?

    • Which format of the application are you trying to record?

    The recording depends on the format of the application which you are trying to record. This also depends on the computer specifications.

    I would suggest that you install the latest codec’s and check if you are able to record without any issues.

    • Also open the recording audio troubleshooter and check if it fixes the problem.

    Open the Record Sound troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio recording. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Not only is there a delay in any application, but when I play anything through the speakers through the line in there is a delay. I have installed all the latest codecs, drivers, updated all of my software, talked to my computer manufacturer and it comes down to the fact that this is a Windows 7 bug. I've tried the things you have suggested and they haven't done anything for me unfortunatly.... Does Microsoft know about this problem? I'd really like a patch soon since I got this new computer to record.

    2 years of W7 and the same problem.

    I really think MS doesn't care about this. So, the only way out is buy a mac.

    I too am having this issue.  I'm trying to use the USB microphone from my Guitar Hero set (it's just a standard Logitech USB mic) for karaoke with Swift Elite and there is about 1/4 to 1/2 delay in the audio.  I can't believe this hasn't been fixed after 2 years.

    So is there really no solution for this after two years???????    I like Win7 for most things, but the microphone always had a delay that made it unusable.  (Well, it was usable unless I didn't want a monitor, which is no way to do any real recording.)  Two years ago I was using an analog mic plugged into the mic input going to the Realtek audio built into my motherboard. The delay was terrible. Now that I'm trying to use the PC for more than web browsing and playing games I tried it again this week.  Still a terrible delay.  I downloaded the latest Realtek drivers.  Still a delay.  I downloaded the latest display drivers (which I know shouldn't have anything to do with it, but what the heck?) and that didn't help.  I tried the suggestions over the past 25 pages of this thread (many of which I tried two years ago) and that didn't help.  So I tried buying a USB mic instead of a standard mic.  Still a terrible delay.

    So really... is it really impossible to use Win7 for audio recording?  Is there really no way to get rid of this god awful delay other than buying a Mac?  That is ridiculous!   Dual booting WinXP is a pain and frankly it's ridiculous that Win7 can't do what WinXP did with no problem years ago!

    Am I missing something here?  Do I have to give up on Windows as nothing but a gaming OS and switch to Mac for the serious stuff?  Or should I try Linux, since dual booting that is pretty painless?
