Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    You know what guys... I can't believe Microsoft didn't solve this issue. It's almost as though the music world felt threatened by the small guys making music on their home pcs that rivaled the best the studios could come up with and decided by screwing our home studios over they could effectively limit the quality of music coming out. I have been recording without playback now for a while, and since I record acoustic instruments, this isn't such a bit problem. However, when recording electric guitars, it definitely adds a level of difficulty not having any more playback than the relatively quiet sound of the strings being plucked. And to hear that windows eight also has this problem! There's definitely something awry here. Wake up and smell that coffee guys.

    This should, in fact, be the solution for everyone.  Problem is, with IDT on board audio.. there are no such sliders in speakers/levels.  They just aren't there.  This is the easy solution.. but, not available.  I don't know if it's going to take a registry hack or what.. but, I'm sitting here with a brand new computer and I'll have to go buy a sound card for it now to get rid of this latency.  

    I'd love to hear from anyone if they've been successful in just hearing mic or line in directly to the speakers without latency.
