Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

Thanks,

Chris

I seem to have the same problem : I hook up my guitar on the Mic Line In slot on a Windows 7 Professional 64 bits laptop (Sony VAIO model VPCEC3C5E) and I have a 500ms delay between the input and the recording software, even when using the built in SoundRecorder.exe software. I also have the delay when I check the box "Listen to this device" in the Recording sound option. There is clearly a problem here. I used to do this also on Windows XP before and never had this problem. I have re-installed the latest drivers but nothing did it.

Microsoft people, if you tell me to go and run the Troubleshooter, either you have not even taken the time to analyse this problem seriously, or you just like to waste people's time. Any help would be appreciated.

PS : I'm starting to ask myself why did I spend the extra cash on Windows 7 Professional version ?

Hi, guys, did you try software Microphone Pass-through Emulator delay?

"Microphone Pass-through Emulator is designed for the newer sound cards that the direct playback from microphone to speaker is disabled, such as Realtek HD sound cards. This means you cannot hear what you speak to your MIC from your speaker. This playback feature is a very important or must-have for some applications like Karaoke software or sound mixing programs. Without this feature, you have to spend a lot of money and time to setup a big system with an extra mixer. This program pass the input from microphone through your speakers directly in background to emulate playback features. You can control the output volume and an option to load other programs after running (V1.4 only). Version 1.5 and later support ASIO and DirectX drivers in order to provide lowest recording latency. Thus, using this program is very handy and save you money.

A new playback algorithm is used to fight sound delay. "

I have the same problem. I am absolutely shocked to find apparently nobody in the world seems to have an answer to this and that Microsoft doesn't seem the slightest bit concerned. What a joke, I'm going Mac from this day forward.
