Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    I have the Gateway NV53 and have the same problem that everyone complains about. I just upgraded my Tone Port GX with Line 6 Gear Box (using L6 Monkey) and my problem has all but gone away. I use Mixcraft,  Audacity and POD Farm 2 for home recording and with some preference tweaking I can record fine now. It sucks that this has not been addressed by MS in a service Pac. Hopefully it will, I also bought this lap top for recording.

    This cannot be happening.  I hope somebody takes this up and makes it into a class action suit.  If Microsoft continues selling Windows 7 without a clear warning on this issue, it should be liable to folks who buy it for recording purposes.  All those selling computers, notebooks and netbooks bundled with Windows 7 should also be required to post a warning clearly on their products.  All those sites that post reviews about Windows 7 should also carry this warning.  There will be many more victims who will buy new computers only to find themselves in this fix who will then realize the problem has been around months before.

    Did the programmer who did a wonderful job on the recording functions in XP quit Microsoft and leave with the source codes before Windows 7 was developed?  Looks this way to me.  This is unreal.

    what the heck...

    I just switched to PC from Mac... so, I can't "rollback" to XP... as if I even would know how, this is ____.

    Can someone say in laymen's terms how I can fix this? I'm not made of money and I made an investment on this PC only to have it blow up in my face with this recording issue.
