Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording. This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo. Anyone else having this problem?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

Which is a problem if the hardware manufacturer relies in MSFT drivers, and that's almost 99% of manufacturers. Obviously, W7 has changed something if the stereo mixer was present in XP and not in W7, and if you could plug a USB audio device with no lag at all and now you can't.

Yeah I agree. I've done everything that Chris has suggested, though I appreciate his help, I am sick of hearing the same bull that this is a driver issue. I've talked to my computer manufacturer and my sound card manufacturer. Guess what they said the problem was? Yup. Windows 7 The ability to record lag free should come with our purchases. I shouldn't have to go editing my registries and updating my drivers over it. I refuse to stop complaining until MS releases some type of fix to this problem.

Thanks for the quick response!

By the way, sorry to all for 'Proposing As Answer'; I clicked the button accidently (not sure how to undo).

Anyways, my USB device is second hand, so I'm not sure of the IHV. Nonetheless, it was a gift, so i don't mind picking up a new one. At least that way I'll be able to know what drivers to install (I'll steer clear of devices which suggest using the Inbox Drivers).

P.S. for everyone still complaining about this issue, take a few minutes to read the previous posts by Chris. It has resolved the delay issue for my line-in jack. If you are using a MIDI with a USB line-in (or simply using a USB cord for mic, intrument, etc), you may require to download specific drivers from the respective IHV.
