Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

HTOmega Claro+ sound card

E6600 Intel CPU

6 gigs of RAM

Nvidia GTX 280 video card

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    im glad you tested it like that, i was tempted to buy a usb sound card to test the issue.. then i decided that it is silly that i would be investing more money to fix a problem that shouldn't even be there in the first place. this helps solidify even more than it a windows 7 issue. it shouldn't be so challenging to fix! well i wouldn't think anyways.

    I agree XM..It would be nice for microsoft to release an official fix for this.I am currently working recording support for a karaoke website.I have many members experiencing this issue.

    It would be nice to have an actual fix from microsoft.Most of the members are novice computer users and I'm afraid that most won't know how to install and use a program like this.

    Currently I am running Vista and not having any latency issues,so I'm not about to upgrade myself to Win7,just to see if this program will fix the latency issue (If i even get it on my system after the upgrade)

    No offence to the programmer,but i would feel bad if I suggested this fix to someone and messed up their computer

    Come on Microsoft,....give us something "official" to work with

    Worked perfect!! Oh man, it feels weird to finally say this is fixed..... I think we should definitely spread this around, I think this is the fix we've been looking for. When I first tried it there still seemed to be a little bit of lag, like a very very brief maybe a few milliseconds, but after setting the "Let other applications take exclusive control of this device" on in my Line In I was lag free.

    Of course it would be nice for Microsoft to actually address this and release an official fix, but thank God there is a work around..... Thank you so much for posting this kerby!!!

    Hi,

    I think found of a solution to our problem. (Maybe it is a workaround but it works)

    I wanted to use my USB wireless microphone just to sing and to hear my own voice so  I searched without luck for days for some sort of a program or driver.

    I understand that if microphone is connected through USB to my PC

    And My PC is connected through HDMI to receiver which has all the speakers attached,

    so no way the analog signal from microphone can go all the way to speakers without being converted to digital and than back to analogue.

    So the only way is to minimize signal conversion delay as much as it is possible.

    Luckily one guy wrote audio repeater program.

    Simply unzip file, DO NOT INSTALL the application. You are only interested in 1 file. There are 2 folders x64 and x86.

    They have identical content (audiorepeater.exe and audiorepeater_ks.exe)

    I have Windows 7 64 bit, so I selected x64 of audiorepeater.exe.

    There select:

    input device - (USB Microphone)

    output device - (ATI HDMI output)

    local buffer - (50 ms)

    priority (realtime)

    These settings might differ (depending on how fast is your hardware)

    Press start. And ... voilà, you can hear yourself almost without any delay. In my case this works fine with karaoke software.

    I tried audiorepeater_ks.exe and set all the settings as with audiorepeater.exe but when I start karaoke software I don't hear music. Only my voice.

    If somebody could get this working let me know how. Apparently audiorepeater_ks.exe is a bit faster as it uses some kernel options (Need to be verified)
