Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    Hi th0rtheg0d,

    First please update to the latest Realtek HD Audio driver. You can download it from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

    Then follow these steps to see if the hardware loopback is supported.

    Open the audio control panel.

    Select the Speakers, then click properties.

    Click the Levels tab

    If you don't see a volume control for Microphone or Line In, then there isn't a hardware loopback. You can try contacting your OEM/IHV to see if this can be enabled in another way.

    Same problem here, I've tried everything, followed through every step-by-step procedure, from soundcard driver updating to settings, but audio lag in mic is still here!! I'm getting almost a second of delay! Mic is connected to soundcards rear panel mic input and I'm getting my sound through the coaxial output of my soundcard connected to the amplifier and then to the speakers. Here is the dxdiag below

    When is MS going to fix the microphone delay issue in Windows 7...that has been complained about for over a year now....this is not a driver issue.....there is a 500ms delay when using Mic In.....and please don't give us some text book reply.................very annoying that no effort or proper correspondence has been attempted.................FIX THIS ISSUE.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!millions of musicians depend upon it........................
