Microphone delay when recording in Windows 7

Since upgrading from Vista to Win7, my microphone input has a delay of 500ms to 1s when recording.  This is most notable in apps like Ventrilo.  Anyone else having this problem?

Hi Everyone,

Please see my earlier replies. No functionality has been removed in Windows 7. If you have an audio driver and codec that exposes the hardware loopback, it will still be present on the Levels tab of the Speakers device. However, not all drivers expose this. If you had this option on XP and load the same audio driver, it should be exposed on Windows 7. Same with the stereo mixer. If the audio driver exposes it, it will be available. It is hidden by default on Vista/Windows 7. But on the Recording tab if you right click in the open area and select show disabled devices, you can enable it. If a Stereo Mix device is not shown, then the audio driver is not exposing one. If you had this option on XP, then please try installing the same driver version that was previously installed.

    Hey I tried everything you guys said to do and I'm still having the delay output going through my speakers. If anyone figured out a solution to this problem I would appreciate a response. Come to thing of it though, I never could find the separate input jacks option.

    Hi jacobCWC ,

    Do you have speakers currently plugged in? From the dxdiag log it looks like you don't. If you open the audio control panel, does it show the speakers as not plugged in?

    If you are trying to route the input from the Microphone through the HDMI out to your TV using the new "Listen to" feature, then there is going to be the delay. There is no way around that.

    It is a function of the audio hardware/driver to have audio input mixed to the output on the same device. See my post above about checking the Levels tab on the properties of the Speaker device to see if your hardware supports that feature.

    Jacob, I'm not quite sure about that because I didn't knew about that Q110 (beautiful btw), but what I understand is that you're using the NVIDIA HDMI as sound output, not the Realtek HD, so the only way you can hear the mic connected to the Realtek HD is enabling the "listen to this device" box in W7 audio manager, that's why you keep getting that lag. So you should change the sound output to the Realtek HD or you won't get rid of the lag.

    Tell me if I'm right, you're using the TV speakers, isn't it?. Well, I'm afraid you will have to change the playback device, through the W7 audio manager, to Speakers Realtek High Def Audio as default, then go to the Recording tab and change the settings of your mic for using the sound card and uncheck the "listen to this device" box. And then connect the audio out of the sound card to the audio in of the TV. What I can't tell is if you can configure the TV to see what's coming in through HDMI and hear the audio in at the same time.
