Hi JoeBigsley,
I am sure you have found a solution to ‘backup problem’ by now, although, I just encountered this problem since I had the motherboard
replaced. I posted the question in the forum earlier, and was curious if you did resolve the issue, or just through the PC out the front window???

However, I wanted to comment on another statement you made, “…don't want to spend another $80 with Dell so they can fix
yet another problem with the back-up feature…”, and you may not even need this information, but I felt compelled to share. I am an intelligent, (for a ;) blonde female), and have inquisitiveness to ‘want to know more than just the basics’ of common and popular
software programs and after using the ‘Microsoft help, (little blue question mark in the upper right corner of MSN programs) to learn how to perform various tasks. There have been times I might have done an Internet search for further facts and or directives,
and ended lost in time spending numerous hours reading with avid interest all available information. Now, finally Microsoft has provided a page with all, or most of the information one may require, (http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/sitemap.aspx).
I apologize I digress; when I purchased my new PC two years ago, I also purchased the ‘extended warranty’ from the manufacture, Dell. I believe
for an additional 2 years, (1^st^ year included w/purchase), I paid about $150, (for unlimited issues), especially since the technology is available for the IT representative to ‘fix the problem via a link
allowing access for solving the problem, opposed to having to take the PC somewhere. In July 2013, I will start my third year of service, and I can tell you that I have probably saved over $1000 with just the software extended warranty.
Almost a month after I purchased the extended software warranty I received an offer to purchase a 2 year ‘extended hardware’ warranty, also ‘unlimited’ issues, (I had a problem with the prior PC and, as you stated,
I paid ‘x’ amount per ‘issue’ and it was becoming expensive; I had purchased a new PC as it was cheaper).
Before the contract had expired, a Dell representative call informing me of the different specials available for ‘Dell IT’ services, e.g., all
software purchased and registered with purchase of computer and even ‘hardware’. I am paying less than $400.00 for the extended warranty services and this includes everything, i.e., if unable to fix via normal methods, phone service, a Dell representative
would be sent to my house within 2 – 3 business days. This service proved very valuable a few months ago when my motherboard died and an IT representative came to the house to install a new one, and if that did not correct the issue, within the extended warranty
program I would have received a new computer.
In addition to the extended warranties, access to a website containing various tips, downloads, manuals, diagnostic testing, et al. (http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19?c=us&l=en&s=dhs)
I included the link, as I do not know if the public has access or is aware of the ‘support website’, product support, (http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Servicetag/5FH7JQ1),
and even a Windows 7 support website, (http://www.dell.com/support/contents/us/en/19/article/Product-Support/Self-support-Knowledgebase/Windows-Operating-Systems/windows-7-support?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19).
From what I understand most, if not all, manufactures’ offer the same services I am mentioning. I mentioned the extended warranty service in
case you were unaware, because I really saved money!
Please let me know if & how you resolved the ‘backup error issue’.
